More from the end of the world

This is Shoreditch park just after the atomic bomb fell. The red hue is from the overexposed cross processed Fuji Velvia slide film. I pushed the negative in my scanner, to get detail in the ground and the tree, I’ve lost it in the sky, but it adds to the apocalypse feeling. Continue reading

Plastic Lens facing: Annalie, Guitar and Sun

I took this during the cross processing shoot. I changed cameras to the Vivitar Ultra thin and slim. It was a sunny day and I wanted to get a streaming sun into the film. It went with the dream like feeling of the other photos, except this feels more like a memory.

Atomic Spring

I took this while waiting on a bus stop. I has a few shots left on my Holga from the night before and I was looking for an excuse to finish the film. It was Fuji Velvia.

I love how the cross processing has made everything look fake. Everything behind the grass looks like cardboard cut outs. Continue reading

Annalie asleep with piano

Annalie was after some more photos and I thought it’d be fun to take some dream like photos. Annalie is quite other worldly and I wanted the photos to show that.

I used cross processing (developing slide film as colour film) to give really odd colours, and reduce the clarity of image. I shot it on Fuji Velvia, which I didn’t realise brings out the red tones when it’s incorrectly exposed, so shooting it on my Holga doesn’t create very flattering skin tones.

Something about that tranquility of this photo though makes it appealing. Like we’re joining in on what she’s dreaming.

If you want to try cross processing, West End Cameras in Tottenham Court road are doing a 12.99 CD and 6X6 print special on medium format film. Which is cheaper then most places traditional processing.

I was inspired to do cross processing by this post I read on Feeling Negative the film website.

Plough Yard, danger of death.

What ever was behind this door was so dangerous they’ve bricked it up. That’s how tough Plough Yard is. Continue reading

Streaming light

This is more streaming light fun. Using the cheap plastic lens of the Vivitar ultra slim it creates a really cool effect on this street around the corner from Plough Yard.

Ben Hilton, Double Exposure

I haven’t posted a Holga photo for a while. The wall is in the South Bank near the National Theater, Ben and the table were in the lovely Irish Center in Camden. I took it during Dead Cat, which sort of explains why Ben looks like an overworked happy zombie.

Empty Plough Yard

Plough Yard in certain lights looks like you could push it over. This is one of the first photos I ever processed myself. I thought the dots covering the image meant I’d got something wrong with the chemicals. But it was only dust on my scanner, it just needed a clean!

Living off mud

Taken at the same time as this photo from the other day. I’ve brought out more detail in the shadow but it feels much flatter then the other photo. Having a zoom lens would have come in handy here.

I love the way the gulls are happy just eating things in the mud.

Under the Willow

This willow tree on the Thames just starting to grow it’s branches back looked incredibly peaceful.

I’m reading The Negative by Ansel Adams at the moment and I really wanted to bring out the detail in the shadow with this photo. Unfortunately I blew out the sky and left the shadow quite dark.

The more photos I take, the more I realise you can take loads of photos of the same subject, with very slight changes having large effects to the final image.

I love the crow sitting to the left of the tree. I tried to get closer to him, but he saw me and flew off.

Laughing at iMac

Here I’m testing out my 135mm lens possibly for the first time. It was developed in HC-110 concentration B. I love how it brings out the grain of the film. Continue reading

Outside Angel

I was testing the Cannon 500d taking a few photos. I like this one because suddenly everyone turned towards me. Continue reading
